The Big Swamp Wildlife Park is a community-based volunteer run organisation that is used by schools and the wider community as a recreational and resource centre. We participate in a variety of structured workplace learning, work for the dole, work experience, green corps, disability services and community work programmes.

In general volunteers need to be a minimum of 18 years of age or be a participant in one of the previously mentioned programmes.

The Wildlife Park offers a variety of experiences depending on need. They consist of Native Animal based experience, grounds keeping experience, retail/tourism experience or a combination ot suit individual requirements.

Native animal based experience revolves around the daily care and maintenance of the fauna and the enclosures they are housed in. This includes routine cleaning, feeding, feed preparation, enclosure maintenance, behaviour observation and environmental enhancement.

Grounds keeping experience involves grounds keeping and maintenance of the Wildlife Park facility including planting, mulching, pruning, repairs and general grounds keeping duties.

Retail/Tourism experience is based in the main entrance to the park and includes retail sales, customer liason, restock of souvenir items, maintenance of the shop area (general tidying etc) and also may include ordering of consumables for the cafe', answering customer queries, telephone answering and message taking. This position is also responsible for the Cafe' and duties include, basic food preparation and service as well as assistance with the catering of children's birthday parties and functions.

Perspective volunteers need to liaise with their project supervisor or contact the Park Coordinator for an interview and should be aware that places are limited.
